Exercise Red Flag Alaska 17-2

Found 110 miles south of the Arctic Circle, Eielson Air Force Base was a hive of activity between June 8 and 23 2017 with pilots, maintainers and support staff from four air arms descending on the site for Exercise Red Flag Alaska 17-2 (RF-A 17-2). With participants from the United States Air Force (USAF), United States Air National Guard (USANG), Japanese Air Self Defence Force (JASDF) and Republic of Korea Air Force (RoKAF) squadrons using the base, other exercise participants operated out of Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson Elmendorf (JBER) while those from the US Army worked out of Fort Wainwright, Alaska. Duxford Air Festival 2017

The Duxford Air Festival 2017 was the first of the three major air display events to be held at the Cambridgeshire airfield this year. With a strong lineup spanning almost the entire history of aviation, Adam Duffield headed to the Saturday of the two day show for AeroResource. Additional images from Duncan Monk. An often-levied remark around any Duxford airshow is that the majority of participants are the same and, in some ways, that could be considered a fair statement. However, the May shows over the last few years have seen the home team try to mix up the participants and it [...]

Abingdon Air and Country Show 2017

Abingdon Air and Country Show has always been a traditional season opener taking place at the very start of May. However, as comes with the territory of being ‘the first’ it has also suffered in previous years from a number of display acts cancelling last minute due to not being ready for various reasons. In an attempt to counter this, the organisers moved the show back two weeks in the hope that this could be avoided. Jamie Ewan made the trip to the Oxfordshire show where the later date wasn’t the only significant change to proceedings. Having raised significant sums [...]

Blackburn Buccaneer S2 XN974 Unveil

When compared to so many other types it once shared the skies with, the Blackburn Buccaneer has survived in far better numbers - some 48 complete airframes are still in existence today. The first production example of the S2 variant, Blackburn Buccaneer S2 XN974, has been the focus of a near 18-month restoration effort at its Yorkshire Air Museum home. AeroResource’s Jamie Ewan was invited to join guests as the jet was ‘rolled out’ and unveiled in its original guise. Taking to the air for the first time on June 5, 1964, the story of how Blackburn Buccaneer S2 XN974 ended [...]

Held for the first time around the same time 12 months ago, the event for enthusiasts featured as one of my personal highlights of the year for 2016. After that event, the organisers stated that they hoped to be able to run similar gatherings in [...]
